Before you rely on this: a CAGR is only as good as the two values you put into it. Take them from your fund house's account statement, your consolidated account statement from CAMS or KFintech, or your broker's holding report — not from an app's headline figure. Where you need a scheme's official published return, the AMC's own factsheet is the number that counts.

Assumptions: one lump sum invested at the start and held untouched for the whole period, with nothing added or withdrawn in between, and the growth expressed as a single smoothed annual rate. Not included: the volatility along the way — CAGR says nothing about the worst year — and exit load, expense-ratio drag beyond whatever is already reflected in the final value, capital gains tax, and inflation, so the real purchasing-power return is lower than the figure shown. Where money went in more than once, as with an SIP, CAGR is the wrong measure and XIRR is the right one.
